Question
English teeth?
I really dont mean to offend anyone
Answer
Im British and although I know a lot of people with crooked teeth, I dont know anyone with black teeth. Most Brits have healthy teeth, they are just not as obsessed with superwhite movie star teeth.brbrIt isnt genetic. Fluoride toothpaste was not routinely used in Britain until the s, and mostly our water does not have added fluoride. So a lot of Brits born before the s have a lot of fillings in their teeth due to lack of fluoride and pretentative dental care. NHS dentists were also paid on the basis of how much work they did on a patient, so Im sure some of them did nonessential fillings etc on peoples teeth, just to get the extra money. Orthodontics is still not seen as a quotmust havequot. Its very expensive it costs about twice as much as it does in the US. You can only get free orthodontics if your teeth are very badly misaligned, and its hard to get an appointment in the first place. There arent very many orthodontists in the UK maybe one or two per town. Most British people do not have private health insurance and therefore have to pay for braces out of their own pockets. Our standard of living is lower than in the US. Housing, gas and food cost comparatively more, leaving less disposable income for nonessentials like braces.brbrSo theres a lot of reasons really. In general dentistry here is seen as something you only get done AFTER your teeth start to give you trouble. Not that many people can afford to get preventative dental care as this is mostly only available privately and is expensive.
