How do i get my ps games to play on my ps?

How do i get my ps games to play on my ps?
I bought a ps for my boys this christmas, and was informed that the ps games would play on it no problem. there is a psps game memory on the ps but it wont reconise any of the games, is there a way i can get them to play.

If that gb has usb ports then it can play ps games, but if it has only usb ports then its the new gb that cant play ps games but any of them can play ps games.
