Question
Everyone in my house is asleep and I just burned myself?
I leaned over a ceramic hair straightener and it burnt my elbow in a straight line, like the skin is peeling on both sides. Is there any household item I can put on it bymyself? Does this sound major enough to wake someone up?
Answer
im a nurse in trauma icu...brbrdo not put ANY food products, oils,or lotions on the burn!! these will all trap heat inside and can cause infection...brbrwash it well with warm water and mild soapsoaps with dyes or perfumes in it can irritate the burn.brbrapply aloe vera lotion to the burn and cover it with gauze wrap if you have itif not then leave it open to air after applying the aloe vera gel. you can wrap it in a washcloth if thats all you have. this will help keep new germs out of the burn area.brbrif the burn is forming a blister or starts to drain liquid then i would wake someone for a trip to the e.rthese are signs of a second degree burn and youll need silvadene cream to treat itonly a doctor can provide you with this.brbrfor pain take ibuprofen. mg every hours but no more than mg in hours. you can also take tylenolsame dose but the ibuprofen has an antiinflammatory in it to help reduce swelling.brbrmake an appointment with in hours to see your doctor so he can make sure you are not showing any signs of infection and to also make sure you dont need special cream to treat the burn.brbrgood luck to you and try to relax and get some sleepit doesnt sound as bad as im sure it looks!!
